Nurturing mindfulness in parenting : 3 steps when you are spiraling and triggered as a parent

khai and his lion
In Book 1, we focus a lot on the importance of body and interoceptive awareness. The very first step, before children even learn to communicate feelings and needs, is to be able to listen to their bodies and be aware of their emotional and mental state. For example, when Khai hears his stomach growling, he knows that he is hungry.
We've provided a parental guide at the end of the book, however, if you wish for more tips and strategies on how we can help our children further with body and interoceptive awareness, scroll down :)
wHAT IS bODY aWARENESS :
Body awareness encompasses the complex mind-body connection; the way our bodies feel relates to shifting emotions and mental states. For example, when Khai hears his stomach growling, he knows that he is hungry
wHAT IS iNTROCEPTIVE AWARENESS:
A person’s sense of their internal systems and their effect on the body. This contributes to an individual’s emotional awareness, overall health, and wellness which allows the individual to be more in tune with her/his health status.

Playlist: Songs to help children with self-regulation
A lovely album (link below) by Lindsay Munroe that you and your children can listen, sing, and dance to! The songs are nurturing and uplifting, and I really like that they calming to listen to.
Some songs in this album help children learn about self-regulation without ever using the words ‘self-regulation’. And that’s how we help our children to learn self-reg. We talk (or sing!) about how our bodies might feel when stressed, what we can do to restore calm, and we talk about ways an adult can help.
Lists
To help children and families, we've compiled a list of body sensations, feelings and needs here.
